Audio/Video Podcast: Pros and Cons for Adult Learners.

As we have explored different technologies throughout the course, we now have experience in building a wiki, creating a podcast and finally, in blogging. There are a number of benefits to incorporating these tools into the learning environment for adult learners; it offers a convenient option to share and receive information, it is mobile device friendly allowing students to easily access information on the go, and when used correctly, can provide the most up to date information available. Luna and Cullen (2011) specifically discuss podcasts, and how integrating this into lesson plans can bring positive learning environments to adult learners. Podcasting!

What an exciting week to have our first podcast come due. I was recently talking to a chef who contracted to come to our facility to set up our room service. He mentioned that he is part of a cook's podcasting series and talked about the ins and outs of having a weekly podcast. It was fascinating to hear about his anecdotes. For my first podcast, I interviewed a colleague, Sarah, who is the Inpatient Clinical Nutrition Manager at my facility. We talked about how she integrates emerging technologies into her annual competencies to ensure everyone is on the same page with the technology in our facility. The lesson plan has played to the strength of the advantages listed by King & Cox (2011) in the sense that the wiki project will be practical - both for the department and as a practical application for the interns to move from theory to practice and utilize the SOPs in real-world applications within our kitchen. Second, the project offers freedom of participation and fosters...
